New year, new me, as the saying goes and while I don't know about that for me personally, it appears to be true for some of the largest and most well-known international hotel brands. As we say goodbye to 2024 and welcome 2025, major hotel chains like Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, and IHG are competing for more territory as they continually expand their footprint by developing and opening new hotels.

In 2024, we officially launched Hotel Alerts – a brand-new add-on to our Thrifty Traveler Premium flight deal alert service. For an additional $24.99 a year, members can opt-in and start getting alerts to book some of the best properties in the U.S. and across the globe to redeem their points from these hotel chains – or transferable credit card points.

In the months since we launched, we've sent tons of spectacular hotel alerts to help travelers book some of the best properties all over the world this year and next. We're constantly on the prowl for new property openings and getting these deals to our customers first.

Want a glimpse into what's coming in 2025? Let's take a look at the new hotel openings that we're most excited about this year.

Curious about how our hotel alerts work? Read all about it!

Three Park Hyatts Opening in Mexico

From the buzzing streets of Mexico City to the rocky shores of Los Cabos, Hyatt has its sights set on opening several new luxe properties throughout Mexico in the years ahead.

With a handful of brand-new properties in the pipeline, Hyatt is planning to open at least five new properties south of the border by the end of 2025. That includes a trio of brand-new Park Hyatt locations, which will be the company's first flagship Park Hyatt locations in Mexico, which are known for stellar service and top-notch finishes.

Park Hyatt Los Cabos at Cabo Del Sol

After years of anticipation, we now have a date for when Mexico's first Park Hyatt location will open. The Park Hyatt Los Cabos at Cabo del Sol recently began accepting reservations for stays beginning Aug. 1, 2025. However, it remains to be seen if that date will stick – hotel opening dates are really tricky to get right due to unforeseen construction delays.

Set in a tried-and-true tourist destination, this brand-new five-star resort property is located in the exclusive community of Cabos del Sol, situated along the coast between the cities of San Jose del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. The resort is outfitted with everything you'll need to have a relaxing stay, including access to world-class golf courses, poolside cabanas, and a beach club. For the health-conscious traveler, there's a 59,000-square foot wellness center equipped with a serene spa (and nail salon), 24-hour fitness center, yoga studio, and lap pool.

The resort will have 163 guest rooms, including 88 suites and three ultra-luxurious villas, complete with kitchens and their own private lap pool. Meanwhile, the hotel's suites boast features like private plunge pools and patios or terraces with breathtaking views of the resort of the Sea of Cortez.

Ready to book a stay for yourself? Prepare to pay for it. Park Hyatts are the hotel chain's top brand, so it's not shocking that cash rates here are averaging $1,000 per night. Ouch!

Fortunately, you can use points to book a stay here instead of paying that high nightly rate. This new Park Hyatt is a Category 8 property in the World of Hyatt program, meaning a free night here will cost between 35,000 and 45,000 points per night, depending on whether the date is designated as peak or off-peak. Finding award availability here could prove to be tricky but as soon as space opened up, our Thrifty Traveler Premium Hotel Alerts subscribers were the first to know about it.

Park Hyatt Mexico City

Come 2025, Hyatt plans to open the Park Hyatt Mexico City in the trendy, upscale Polanco neighborhood. Still under construction, Mexico's first urban Park Hyatt in the heart of Mexico City has Chapultepec Park at its front doorstep and is just moments away from Chapultepec Castle, and the Rufino Tamayo and Jumex Museum.

In close proximity to the existing Hyatt Regency Mexico City, the Park Hyatt will be comprised of two towers, with one housing the accommodations while the other is dedicated to corporate office use. Floors 6 to 18 will be devoted to rooms and presidential suites while levels 19 to 30 house the residences. The lower levels will feature a gym, spa, and pool.

This beachfront resort is slated to have upscale dining, bars and lounges, and over 3,000 square feet of meeting space, including a massive 2,000-square-foot ballroom. Beyond that, there are few other details about the property.

Waldorf Astoria Expands Across 5 Continents

Waldorf Astoria is among Hilton's top brands and the company has several new locations in the pipeline in cities like London, Sydney, Hanoi, Jakarta, Tanger, Kuala Lumpur and Jaipur through 2026 and beyond. As of 2025, there are several already open for reservations.

We found tons of availability for our Thrifty Traveler Premium members to book this highly anticipated five-star resort for 120,000 Hilton points per night from August through early November 2025 – and while that's technically “off-peak,” there's no bad time to visit Costa Rica. With cash rates averaging over $1,600 a night, it's an incredible use of Hilton points, free night certificates, or both!

This resort is slated to officially open its doors on May 1. While there, you'll be able to take a drive to the Rincón de la Vieja Volcano, go on a short drive for a wildlife tour, paddle board among the incredible marine life, or just lounge at a beachside cabana. Guests can choose between cooling off in the multi-level infinity pool or hitting the private beach. This resort is also expected to have all the amenities you'd expect from a hotel at its price point including a spa, gym, and multiple dining options.

You'll book into either a king or double queen bedroom equipped with an outside soaking tub and rainfall shower on the balcony overlooking the tropical landscape. Top-tier Hilton Diamond members should have a good shot at an upgrade to a room with an ocean view or even a patio plunge pool. With the resort set on the side of a cliff, every room should have a good view regardless of whether or not it's deemed an ocean view.

Waldorf Astoria Osaka

Take a trip to Japan next year and use your Hilton points to book a stay at the brand-new Waldorf Astoria Osaka. Hilton just unleashed wide-open availability for 100k Hilton points a night at the city's newest five-star hotel from April to November. With cash rates averaging $800-1000 a night, it's a solid use of Hilton points, free night certificates, or both!

Waldorf Astoria New York

If you're really looking to splurge, the wait is over: The Waldorf Astoria New York is now accepting reservations for this spring after nearly a decade of renovations. And while it will cost you a small fortune – think $1,600 or more a night – you can also book it with Hilton Honors points.

While it's steep at 150,000 points a night, that's still an excellent use of your Hilton points … or a Hilton free night certificate! While it hasn't officially re-opened yet, we'd be foolish to leave it off this list.

Located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan on Park Avenue, you're just a walk away from upscale dining, luxury shopping, and local attractions like Central Park, the Empire State Building, and the Museum of Modern Art. It's truly the perfect home base for exploring the country's most electric city.

Free night awards will book into a king bedroom – and at 475 square feet, it's massive for New York City standards. Each room is equipped with a seating area, views of the city, and a “spa-like” bathroom with a separate shower and large soaking tub.

The property charges a hefty average daily rate of $900 per night. But if you're looking to book this property with your Marriott points, it'll cost you as few as 106,000 points to as many as 180,000 points per night. Yikes! If you're able to catch a Marriott transfer bonus in the near future, that might just be the only time it makes sense to book this property with your credit card points.

The property features seven dining options, a fitness center, a spa, golf course, and four swimming pools, plus beach access.

Your Marriott points book you into either a balcony or rooftop guest room, which is equipped with a shower and soaking tub and views of the ocean or poolside.

JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa

Greece is getting its first JW Marriott starting Aug. 1. The JW Marriott Crete Resort & Spa is now accepting reservations from August through October as a seasonal resort.

A historic 19th-century property on Lake Como just outside of Milan, Italy is getting a facelift. The Lake Como EDITION is set to open for reservations sometime in 2025, with 145 guestrooms, inclusive of two penthouse suites.
